Phloridzin is a compound that has been used experimentally to produce glucosuria in animals and has shown minimal use in treating diabetes. Dietarily there is only one confirmed source and that is beets and beet sugar. It was once thought to occur in apples, pears, plums and cherries but now has been confirmed only in apple bark and roots. Nevertheless, it has had great benefit for collagen diseases and others with sugar difficulties. The chemical has been of particular interest in sugar cravings.
